External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has won many hearts with her active presence on social media and the way she takes immediate action for people seeking help from her on Facebook or Twitter. This time, she helped Deepika Pandey, a resident of Boston, Massachusetts, and her newborn daughter.
Deepika, who also has a four-year-old son, lost her husband Hariom Pandey to a heart attack just a few weeks before the birth of their daughter. Her friends took her to New Jersey for better care but the problem arose when she could not gain access to proper treatment there. The health insurance of one state in the US does not work in another, and this was creating an issue for Deepika. Her family wanted her to return to India with her kids so they would be able to take care of her.
They posted a letter to Sushma Swaraj on Twitter, informing her about the problems and requesting the government to grant a passport and OCI (Overseas Citizenship of India) card for the newborn so they could return to India.
