This Police Constable Climbed a Hill Barefoot to Save a Man from Committing Suicide

Suhas Nevase, a 29-year-old police constable from Mumbai, saved a 35-year-old man who was about to commit suicide because he had not received his salary. At 5:00 pm on Wednesday, Sakinaka police received a distress call from the control room informing about a man who was trying to end his life by jumping from the top of a Sangharsh Nagar hill in Andheri East. Suhas and sub-inspector Mhatre rushed to the spot to find the man standing on the edge of the hill.

Without a second thought, Suhas climbed the hill barefoot, spoke with him for about 30 minutes, and convinced him to come down.

“He negotiated with the man for nearly 30 minutes and convinced him to be brought down safely. The hill is about 50m high. It was risky as Nevase could have fallen off. The man could have jumped off,” a police officer told Hindustan Times.

Suhas added that there were 100 people when they reached the spot and it was difficult to the reach the man. They had called fire brigade but he felt that the man would jump by the time firemen arrived. So he decided to save him. “I have commando training. I kept a distance of 5 feet from him and spoke to him. I promised to help him with his salary. He was finally convinced,” said Suhas. The man was later identified as Abdul Mansuri. He comes from Rajasthan and lives on footpaths in Mumbai. Working in a hotel, he was angry and frustrated because his employer was not paying him.
